On the threshold of the great forgotten
The raid in Wells is one of the most dramatic examples of Nazi arbitrariness and terror across Europe. The war crime comparable to the atrocities that have been committed in the Bosnian Srebrenica. In Wells, the drama left deep scars in the collective memory. In Germany, the history of Wells however completely unknown. The Germans assume that such crimes could not occur in 'bleed’ Netherlands. The raid in Wells are two thousand Wehrmacht soldiers and SS men involved. Only two soldiers are punished. Director Thom Verheul goes into the two-part documentary "On the threshold of the great forgotten’ looking for the perpetrators of this war crime. The documentary was awarded the Peace Prize at the Festival of Independent Film in Osnabrück and the Prix de l' Survey Scientifique at the 19th Festival International du du SCOOP and Journalism.
